SOCCER LOVERS CLAIM FOR LOWER PROGRESS OF ZOMBA STADIUM

Football lovers in Zomba has claimed over the unprogressive construction of Zomba stadium project saying they have never watched super league games in the city for years.

Speaking to Malawi24 one of the concerned party, Anderson Miwanda emphasized that the construction has taken almost six years now, describing this as an insult to soccer lovers.

“This delay is unfortunate and is denying people in Zomba chances to watch super league games”, Sad Miwanda.

In the past, the stadium used to be known by the name Zomba community ground before government decides to upgrade it in 2017.

“It would have been better if Zomba community ground remained as it was, because it was the only ground that used to host super league games in the district”, he added.

According to Malawi24, only two stands are complete giving a doubt for the government if it really wants to develop sports in as far as Zomba stadium is concerned.

DEC construction is the constructor of the stadium which is expected to accommodate 20, 000 spectators. 

Meanwhile DEC site foreman Wilfred Kandeya, said the company is at its best of completing the project soon and they are working on the grass turf on the pitch which is affected by heavy rains in the city at the expense of progress.

A group of people stand in solidarity expressing their concern over the delay planned for a talk with Minister of finance, Local government of sports in Lilongwe to give a say on the matter, but it was proven a failure as it did not take place.

Nyamilandu speaking to young stars Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Walter Nyamilandu says the Fifa-funded Talent Development Scheme (TDS) will help improve national football team players. According to the Times Group, Nyamilandu, speaking during the launch of the scheme at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre, said the scheme will facilitate the supply of quality players to the national football team.   “For a long time, we have failed to produce enough complete players for both the national team and export to top leagues abroad because we lacked players that have various attributes such as good physique, height and skills,” he said. BLANTYRE DURBY ENDS IN DRAW

During the game The first Blantyre derby of 2023 failed to produce a winner as Nyasa Big Bullets were held to a goalless draw by rival Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon. According to Malawi24 nomads dominated the first half while BB enjoyed the closing stage of the second half, but there was nothing to separate the two teams in full time.
