Vandalism affects BNS |
Members of parliament claim over government failure to manage sports facilities namely, Bingu National Stadium, Kamuzu Stadium and Civo Stadium.
According to Times group this has been revealed in a meeting involving parliamentary committee on social and community affairs, Ministry of youth and sports and Malawi national council of sports at Bingu national stadium on Wednesday.
The effect comes after the government failed to look after those sports infrastructures.
According to the Times group chairperson of parliamentary committee on social and community affairs Savel Kafwafwa said there is need to look upon the infrastructures.
“Our concern was that there is no proper plan to take care of the facilities. The facilities always do not have enough resources to maintenance. We asked the ministry to ensure that these facilities are taken care of” He said.
Furthermore Kafwafwa said that it is to a sad note that NBS usually get in about K80 million annually but in fact it needs more than K200 million to cover its condition.
However he encouraged team work as a key factor among members of staff in making sure that sports facilities are taken care of.
In accordance to Times group, Director of sports in the ministry of youth and sports Jameson Ndalama was not available for his comment yesterday.
In an earlier interview with Times group minister of youth and sports Chimwendo Banda said that it was in the plans of the government to have a special directorate to look after the facilities.
Sports analyst George Masina said the parliamentarians should increase funding torwads the ministry.
“What should be appreciated is that the MP’S are the ones who approve budget but sports budget is always meagre, that cannot suffice maintenance thus the status of most sports facilities. Those managing the facilities are on the record complaining about poor funding”. Said Kaudza-Masina according to Times group.
